The Hill Country Harbor community in Graford, Texas, is an upscale luxury neighborhood known for its hilly, rocky terrain and seasonal homeowners. The municipality faced a significant challenge due to the rocky ground, making the installation of a traditional gravity sewer system nearly impossible. They needed a reliable sewer solution that would blend with the aesthetic expectations of this high-end community.

Problem

The rocky landscape, coupled with the transient population of seasonal homeowners, created obstacles for a traditional sewer system. The municipality sought a cost-effective, visually appealing solution that would also handle the fluctuating usage patterns in the community.

Solution

Crane Pumps & Systems recommended a pressure sewer solution featuring Barnes EcoTRAN systems and Barnes duplex basin packages, both equipped with Barnes Omni Grind Plus two-stage centrifugal grinder pumps. This solution provided the community with a robust and efficient sewer system that eliminated the need for extensive excavation and large sewer lines. The pumps are hidden discreetly, contributing to the aesthetic value of the community.

Key Features: Omni Grind Plus Grinder

  • Two-stage pump design delivers superior high head capability, making it suitable for the hilly terrain
  • Installed with Barnes ESPS (Environmentally Sealed Pressure Switch), preventing grease buildup and ensuring smooth operation
  • Built-in start and run capacitors in the motor housing, eliminating the need for expensive control panels
  • UL and CSA listed, ensuring both quality and electrical safety

Installation

After a meeting at the 2009 International Builders’ Trade Show in Las Vegas, CP&S was invited by Dan Offield of Hill Country Harbor municipality to design a pressure sewer solution for the community. Using advanced piping analysis software, KY Pipe, CP&S developed a plan that recommended 100 Barnes EcoTRAN systems and five duplex basin packages, all equipped with the Omni Grind Plus pumps. The design was not only aesthetically pleasing but also 30% more cost-effective than the competing proposal.

Solution

CP&S provided a pressure sewer system utilizing advanced hydraulic modeling, eliminating the need for deep trenches and large sewer lines. The compact EcoTRAN system ensures the system remains hidden while effectively moving wastewater through smaller pipes. This solution allowed for a cost-effective and aesthetically appropriate installation, overcoming the challenges of both terrain and usage patterns.
