The new Operations & Maintenance Handbook from the National Clay Pipe Institute (NCPI) is groundbreaking for both engineers and operational staff. The primary focus of the handbook is reduction of SSOs through aggressive cleaning techniques and consistent use of a standard operating procedure.
Kent Carlson, vice president of NCPI, brings his more than 30 years as manager of the city of Los Angeles Wastewater Collections Division to the development of this handbook. Carlson was a hands-on manager who spent time “in the trenches” and even used his experience as a machinist in the U.S. Navy to create new tools for cleaning sanitary sewers. All of that experience was used in building the standard operating procedure included in this handbook.
Where to find it
NCPI is making this handbook available online at no charge, although registration is required. There is a link to it on the NCPI website homepage at www.ncpi.org.
Also on the homepage is a PDF document of training workshops offered by NCPI, including a complete section on operations, maintenance and field training. These workshops are currently offered virtually and in person at no charge. All NCPI workshops qualify for professional development hours.
To learn more, contact Kent Carlson directly at 661-993-2282 or kentcarlson@ncpi.org, or contact one of NCPI member companies.
NCPI is the oldest organization representing clay pipe manufacturers to sanitary sewer system decision-makers. The organization offers the unique perspective, history and knowledge of the longest-serving and longest-lasting pipe material available.
