HCA Healthcare — a for-profit health care facility operator in the United States — partnered with HealthTrust to enhance operational efficiency in its Lakeland, Florida location. To accommodate offices, restrooms and break rooms for its staff, project manager Nate Hefner oversaw the planning of a facility expansion. The challenge was to drain three restrooms in different sections of the warehouse into the existing sanitary sewer, with the furthest restroom located approximately 850 feet away from the sewer access.
Initially, the plan involved “excavating 6 feet deep and 4 feet wide down in the ground to then pump up across the warehouse,” Hefner says, but the team decided to explore alternative solutions and reached out to Saniflo. After confirming the feasibility of the electrical components, they opted for two of Saniflo’s Sanicubic 2VX duplex lift stations to handle wastewater coming from three new single-user restroom facilities. These powerful 1.5 hp duplex pumps could discharge wastewater vertically up to 36 feet with a 2-inch diameter pipe, eliminating the need for costly and inconvenient pit installations. Moreover, the Sanicubic 2VX units could handle large-diameter solids and sanitary products efficiently.
The installation involved routing the discharge pipes, vent pipes and wastewater connections for each restroom separately, ensuring efficient drainage and ventilation. Additionally, an air compressor setup in the warehouse with a Sanicondens Best Flat condensate pump ensured moisture removal.
The results
The results were highly satisfactory, with both Sanicubic units and the Sanicondens Best Flat operating smoothly at HealthTrust Lakeland. This choice not only proved cost effective compared to the initially specified equipment, but the facility contacted Feddon Mechanical and Saniflo to pursue a service agreement for routine preventive maintenance on all three units, expanding their commercial service division’s offerings.
