Water utilities typically change their AMR/AMI meter reading systems every 8.2 years, far more frequently than the 20-year life expectancy of the meters, according to a study by Dr. Howard Scott (www.thescottreport.com). Scott analyzed 30 years of data covering about 11,000 projects involving 58.8 million AMR/AMI units.
