The January issue of Municipal Sewer & Water is out, featuring the Key Largo (Florida) Wastewater Treatment District. The district was created in 2005 to change private septic systems to a public collections system to protect the waters surrounding the 16-mile-long island. The district is meeting its objective, but the vacuum collections system required by such high-water-table areas is more complex and high maintenance than standard gravity flow systems.
